With the news of VMware’s $1.2B acquisition of Nicira and Contrail Systems’ Series A funding announcement, it’s been an exciting time in the SDN space. The whole industry is suddenly jumping in on a passionate dialog of how to achieve customers goals of open standards-based, scalable SDN architectures, and how to optimize operational efficiency.

Khosla Ventures Puts $10M into Stealthy Contrail Systems
With the software-defined networking space heating up with VMware Inc .’s recent $1.26 billion acquisition of Nicira Networks Inc., Contrail Systems Inc. said it has raised a $10 million Series A round led by Khosla Ventures to provide its own virtualized network control platform.
With the new funds, Contrail will expand its team and continue development of its software-based networking product that it expects to release in the first quarter of next year. Contrail is currently in stealth mode.
